A Bad Day - with a positive outlook.

I had a bad day yesterday.  My healing has not been going as I wanted. I had my follow up CT scan yesterday and this was the update.   I had cerebral tear in which cause my brain to bleed and the scull fracture. In addition, my loss of smell will be kind of permanent. I can not ride my bike because of my head trauma, Doctors are extremely cautious because if I hit my head with something it can cause severe to my brain.  They prescribed an anti-inflammatory to promote circulation in my brain and helping the healing. The scaring in the brain is not going well.   Therefore, I am just taking it easy. I can't bike outside, but I can bike on my trainer. I am allowed to run.... that makes me happy. I can't swim yet because of my wound in my leg haven't healed. I am sad. I can't race for a while... but that is okay. My health comes first and I have to set an example for my athletes.

Getting ready for practice!

Just woke up! Getting ready for my run this morning. How exciting! However, I had an argument this morning with my alarm clock... she always wins! LOL Headed to practice in a few...a cup of coffee with some coconut creamer will do the trick.

I have a two hour run!!!! Still deciding if I am going to do IM Wisconsin... waiting for the results of my CT Scan on Friday. If I get the green light.... I might do the race...just to finish it!

CFL Tri Club Update

Quote of the week: "A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done."
- Vince Lombardi

Coaches Note: These past couple of weeks have been an experience that has changed my life in several ways. From not having the ability to walk, being in a wheel chair, walking with a walker, taking baby steps, relearning how to walk again, and today I was able to run again. You don't know how grateful I am to have the opportunity to be mobile again. With that said, never take life for granted and live your life at its fullest. Don't allow little things in life to get in the way, take are of your body and take care of yourself.

Saturday's Recap

Right before I went to bed last night, I felt my leg aching and I took my pain medication.  The medication knocked me out and I woke up with a migraine. I went to coach the group and had two appointments that day.  The headache and the depression kept beside me all day. I had to get on my bike for at least two hours, that didn't happen. I didn't have the energy and my head felt to heavy. I cooked dinner and watched a movie with my partner.  It is time to go to bed now and I feel like I have congestion or just pressure in my forehead. The same kind of pressure before I was taking the steroid. I think I have to go see my Doctor on monday again.

On a side note, I am very happy with my partner and my athletes for following through with their training.  They are going to do great in their upcoming races.  Well tomorrow is another day and I am going to try and run in the morning. It is going to be my first attempt after the accident. Let see how it goes!

Week One - Recap of my trip to Germany

It is August 20, 2010 and I am watching TV after taking my medication. I just finished watching The Last Song with Miley Cyrus and now watching X-Men 3... again. It has been quite the journey for me these past couple of days. Let me give you a quick run down:

On July 26, 2010, I went to Colonge Germany to participate in the Gay Games. I was really excited for this event because I have been training the past four years to come back with a bang. However, things didn't turn out as expected. I signed up for the Triathlon and a few other races. In the Triathlon, I was fifth overall in the water and third lead on the bike. It was my day; however, while passing a cyclist on my third loop of the bike, the cyclist geared left while passing him and our bars collided. I flew off my bike in which led me to the hospital. After three hours in the hospital and a series of X-rays they sent me home after patching me up..

I wasn't feeling well and I was nauseous. After vomiting several times the following day, my partner decided to take me to the hospital.  They ran some CT Scans and found that I had a scull fracture, two cerebral bleeds, loss of 20% of my smell and 10% of my hearing.  They hospitalized me for a week until I felt better. You have to appreciate the Health care System in America.  As a Vegetarian it is rough to eat the food they give you in the hospitals... especially in Germany. I lost a total of 13 lbs of muscle mass. On August 7, the let me go home because i was feeling better. The following day I flew back to the US. The nine hour flight wasn't pleasant. During the crash I hit my hip, the nine hour flight aggravated my hip flexors and caused my sciatica nerve to be pinched. I couldn't walk. I went to my Dr. house as soon as I landed. He set up an MRI the following day. I went to my Mom's house to rest and it was a rough night.

The following day, I went to the Dr. Office and he saw my condition and hospitalized me for a week. After Physical Therapy and medication, I was able to walk again! They let me go home on a Friday, but it didn't hit me that I was injured till Sunday morning. I felt helpless and vulnerable.

I won't lie to you, I am a little depressed. I have IM Wisconsin in three weeks and my Doctor hasn't cleared me yet to do the race. I have been on my bike trainer twice, and have been using the Arc Trainer. Not running for three weeks is killing me!  I am sad but I understand that is okay to feel this way and I will get better.  I am just taking it a day at a time. Well I am going to bed now... I am going to try and get on my bike trainer tomorrow morning.
